  1. Corrigendum - Figure Scales/Legends

    Thomas Cullen, University of Toronto

    29 July 2015

Several inaccuracies were detected after publication relating to scale bars in some images featured in figures 1-4. This appears to be the result of a calibration issue with the imaging software used to photograph the thin sections.

The calibration issue was corrected, and the required changes to figure scale bars and captions are listed below:

    Figure 1:

CMN 12068 femur - scale bar should be 6 mm

CMN 12068 tibia - no change

CMN 12068 fibula - no change

CMN 12068 pedal phalanx - scale bar should be 5 mm

CMN 12069 tibia - scale bar should be 6 mm

CMN 12069 fibula - no change

CMN 12069 metatarsal - scale bar should be 5 mm

CMN 12069 pedal phalanx - scale bar should be 5 mm

CMN 12070 tibia - scale bar should be 5 mm

CMN 12070 metatarsal - scale bar should be 5 mm

    Figure 2:

CMN 12068 femur - no change

CMN 12068 tibia - no change

CMN 12068 fibula - scale bar should be 1 mm

CMN 12068 pedal phalanx - scale bar should be 1 mm

    Figure 3:

CMN 12069 tibia - no change

CMN 12069 fibula - no change

CMN 12069 metatarsal - scale bar should be 1 mm

CMN 12069 pedal phalanx - no change

    Figure 4:

CMN 12070 tibia - scale bar should be 1 mm

CMN 12070 metatarsal - scale bar should be 1 mm

    Figure 5:

ROM 852 fibula - primary scale bar - no change

ROM 852 fibula - inset I scale bar - should be 200 um

ROM 852 fibula - inset II scale bar - no change

ROM 852 fibula - inset III scale bar - no change

ROM 852 fibula - inset IV scale bar - no change

None of these errors affect the analytical results or the discussion, nor are they present in the text of the manuscript. The LAG spacing comparisons were not affected, as they examined relative distances as a proportion of total bone cortex. The osteocyte lacunar densities and the high magnification images used to calculate them do not appear to have been affected by the calibration issue (which primarily related to an issue between a lower magnification lens and the imaging software).

There is an additional minor typographical error in the caption of Figure 4, where the labels of the specimens were reversed. 'A' should refer to the tibia, and 'B' to the metatarsal. This error does not carry over to the manuscript text, where the correct associations are given.

The authors apologize for these errors. This correction should be noted to readers, particularly those who may wish to use our figures for any comparative measurements.

    Sincerely,

    Thomas Cullen
