  1. * Minimal lethal concentrations (MLC) for metronidazole were determined by in vitro microtitre plate assay [32] under aerobic conditions. MLC was defined as the lowest concentration of metronidazole at which no motile parasites were detectable by microscopy. † Drug-susceptibility data for strains CDC-85 and RU 357 were obtained from literature [34].
