At each node, the probability of the state of the rDNA cluster is reported as a pie: black = presence, yellow = absence. The ancestral chromosome 17p is drawn at the base of the tree and the position of two rearrangements is indicated: (1) a translocation occurred, leading to the addition of a new centromere and the loss of the previous one, the rDNA cluster becomes interstitial. (2) Following a fission event, a new centromere is subsequently reacquired in the original position; the rDNA cluster is again located in a pericentromeric region. The breakpoints are indicated by green arrows, centromeres are in blue and rDNA clusters in red.
