Shape integration between modules of the mandible. (a) Contribution of nested modules to the variation of the ensemble. The inter-individual distances were calculated for each partition of the mandible (above, total mandible; middle: two main modules; below: five local modules). The correlations between distances pointed to a strong contribution of a part (module) to the ensemble (main module or whole mandible) it contributes to. (b) Integration between modules. Inter-individual distances were calculated and compared between modules of a same partition of the mandible. Significant relationships pointed to integration between two modules. The lines represent significant correlations and their width is proportional to the strength of the relationship (RV coefficient, Table 4).
