Using an alignment of bHLH domains within each Kingdom, amino acids occurring at a frequency of more than 50% at a given site are displayed. At each of these sites, additional amino acids are displayed if they are conserved in 10% or more of the sequences. The Plant and Animal consensus sequences are derived from previous work [8, 13]. Boundaries between bHLH subdomains are shown at the bottom.
