Positional equivalence of intronic snoRNAs in LECA genes. We binned snoRNA-carrying introns into discrete loci based on protein-based alignments of their respective genes. The results suggest that, on parsimony, 22 loci are traceable to the LECA. However, in no case were we able to establish homology of snoRNAs across supergroups (based on sequence, structure or modification site), suggesting independent gain rather than deep ancestry (see text).
