Table 2 Posterior mean (SD) and median values of the degree of developmental noise (DN). Data were generated for three different sample sizes and for six different shapes of the distribution of DS, as determined by two parameters β1 and β2 of the beta-distribution. The true underlying value of DN equalled 1. Estimated distributions of variation in DS are presented graphically in Figure 3.
