Power as a function of group size. The power of the method to detect the divergence point with strong support as the branch location of the divergence point or the size of the topology changes. For the first set, the divergence point is located on the middle branch or a terminal branch of the 8-taxa tree of Figure 1 and α = 0.5, θ = 0.5, t j = 0.1, and L = 1000. For the second set, the divergence point is located on the middle branch of a 4-, 8-, 12-, or 16-taxa tree, and α = 0.1, θ = 0.1, t j = 0.1, and L = 1000. Error bars indicate 95% confidence intervals accounting for simulation error.
