An appropriate model of nucleotide substitution was selected by Modeltest for the nucleotide sequences encoding the M-, I- and K- domains, and used to infer this phylogeny where the C-terminal domain was excluded. The bars indicate the different clades of DEF-like genes from the Orchidaceae, Liliales, Commelinales, Poales and the outgroup.
