Experimental design. In each trial two males and two females were used. In the main experiment one male (“brother”) was related to the female (“sister”), whereas in the control experiment both males (“brother” and non-sib male) were unrelated to the female (unrelated female) (the number of fertilization trials consisting of two sub-trials each were N_freshwater = 17; N_anadromous = 22).
