In both species, earlier-hatched nestlings were more likely to fledge than later-hatched nestlings, but paternity had no effect on the survival of the offspring. Due to the low incidence of extra-pair paternity in white-browed coucals, the seemingly higher survival probability of extra-pair offspring should not be over-emphasized.
