Western blotting for YFP-VMAT1 and its variants. Cells were transfected with plasmids encoding YFP, YFP-VMAT1, or its variants. Cells without transfection (no transfection) were also prepared (lane 1). Cell lysates were analyzed by immunoblotting with anti-GFP, anti-VMAT1, and anti-α-tubulin antibodies. Immunoblotting of α-tubulin is shown as a loading control. The major immunoreactive bands of GFP and VMAT1 at nearly 80 kDa are consistent with the putative molecular weight of the YFP-VMAT1 fusion protein. The full-length blots for all cropped ones are shown in (Additional file 1: Figure S1a)
