From: Characterization of the tandem CWCH2 sequence motif: a hallmark of inter-zinc finger interactions

Figure 6

Ï•1 and Ï•2 positions of tCWCH2. (A) Stereo view of the tCWCH2 sequence motif. A wire model of the main chains is shown with ZIC3, GLI1, and Zap1 in green and TFIIIA and Zif268 in red. The side chains of tryptophan residues in tCWCH2 and those in the Ï•1, Ï•2 residues are indicated by cylinders. ZIC3, GLI1, and Zap1 are gray cylinders and the others are red cylinders. The corresponding positions (Ï•1, Ï•2) are indicated by red boxes in Figure 5. (B) Frequency of amino acid appearance in Ï•1, Ï•2, and those of general C2H2 (PDOC00028) is shown. Valine, leucine, and isoleucine appear frequently at both positions and methionine frequently appears in Ï•2. This table summarizes all of the tCWCH2 sequences. Highlighted numbers indicate the preferential residues for Ï•1 and Ï•2 in tCWCH2.
