Mean percentage of time spent in the different compartments. For each focal worm species (S. solidus, n = 7 or S. pungitii, n = 7) the mean percentage of time on each side (same species: 1, 2 or 3, neutral: 0 (not shown), different species: −1, −2 or −3, see Fig. 1) was calculated for each trial and the percentage of time the focal worm spent on either the side with the conspecific or on the side with a different species are shown. The red dots and dashed lines indicate the mean for each focal species. The focal worms spent significantly more time on the side with a different species than with a conspecific. The data do not add up to 100 % since time spent in the neutral compartment is not depicted for simplicity
