Divergence times were estimated in million years ago (MYA) for each node [59]. Karyotype of Varanus salvator macromaculatus (VSA(M)) was obtained from Chaiprasertsri et al. [7] and Srikulnath et al. [35] and karyotypes of V. acanthurus (VAC), V. gouldii (VGO), and V. rosenbergi (VRO) were obtained from Matsubara et al. [36]. FISH indicates fluorescence in situ hybridization, and PCR indicates polymerase chain reaction
